This was the last great episode the late Robert Holmes of Doctor Who fame wrote. He died only shortly after penning this masterpiece of Who, sadly.
Oh, it may have its faults. The Magma Beast is just stupid and was forced upon him by the Powers-that-be. But, this is one of the best Who episodes anyway. I liked the audiobook. But anyway!
It is late…I don’t feel like justifying why Androzoni is the best regeneration episode ever right now. If you don’t think it is, then you’re delusional.

Thanks much for this. I recently had the pleasure of meeting director Graeme Harper and hearing about making the episode. He said as soon as he got the script and saw Robert Holmes’ name on it, he knew it would be a good one.

This is a “5th Doctor novelisation” of the original TV story by Robert Holmes. It was written by Terrance Dicks.
From the moment they land on the planet Androzani Minor, everything goes wrong for the Doctor and his new young companion, Peri.
They become involved in the struggle between brutal gun-runners, ruthless Federation troops, and the hideously mutilated Sharaz Jek, who lurks in the depths of the caves with his android army.
Key to the struggle is spectrox, the most valuable substance in the universe…

He died only shortly after penning this masterpiece of Who, sadly.” you’re way off! He subsequently wrote 3 more stories - the Two Doctors for Colin Baker / Patrick Troughton, then The Mysterious Planet and The Ultimate Foe part 1 for Colin Baker. He died in 1985, 2 years after the Caves of Androzani. But thanks for sharing.
