The Israeli government preferred expansion over security. And that was a fateful decision: once they made it, they became completely dependent on the United States. It was clear that this is going to turn Israel into a pariah state. Sooner or later, world opinion would turn against the policy of expansion, violence, aggression, and terror in the occupied territories. And over the years, that has happened… It is all inevitable.

there has been a bevy of books published recently by far more accomplished historians about the Yom Kippur war as we in Israel commemorate the 50 yeras anniversary of this event. You should probably wait until they get translated and uploaded.
