  If the Ukraine had adopted an anti-war stance the Russians would turn the country into a puppet state, just like the CCCP did to so many countries after WWII.

  Just like Hitler in WWII, the Russians would likely have seen capitulation as a sign of weakness, and would have looked at other countries to force into its claws.

  @Acanthrohu Though some wars are thrust upon a nation, and can not be avoided, the US has engaged in wars that should never have taken place. Was the Vietman war worth the death, injury and destruction suffered by both sides, though primarily by the Vietnamese people, by a large margin? Can we ever but wince at the word Agent Orange. We know that the justification for the US invasion of Iraq was a lie. And the war in Afghanistan? A terrible waste of lives, so much money spent, and for what? So, sometimes opposition to war is the correct path.

  Ideally, opposition to war is a desirable path. Although, not at a broader level, in the context of Just War dynamics, and self-defence. The correct orientation towards Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, the Kims, and such genocidal ideology is never pacifism. The people of South Korea & Vietnam did not want to be enslaved & murdered by broken ideology (neither did the people of N Korea, we must assume). And war, as Hegel observed, is a slaughter-bench. It leaves no one’s hands clean.

  The justification for invading Iraq was false. It’s equally true that the Iraqi regime was truly brutal & evil. They deployed nerve agents & chemical weapons of mass destruction against the people of Iraq & others, on multiple occasions, amongst myriad other horrors. In Afghanistan, the barbaric Taliban have reimposed themselves. It seems there’s no available alternative to a regime where, if girls & women ever have the temerity to seek education or secure their human rights, they must have acid thrown in their faces or be shot in the head. That strain of Islam cannot allow such fundamental rights. Consider: a language where there is no word for rape.
  In all fairness: phck the money. It’s the lives that matter.
