“Life in America during WWII”…
Uh, pretty sweet actually! But we won’t let that stop us from calling ourselves the “greatest generation” and pretending we won the war single-handed.

I don’t think you understand the moniker like you think you do, @tenbenson. The “Greatest Generation”, given to them by themselves, really, encompasses not just those in the U.S. but all the tens of millions that fought (and the tens of millions of others that endured), born in the aftermath of the Great War and coming of age during the Great Depression, just in time to be drafted into (or volunteer for) the armed services to fight another war. There is nothing stopping any author in any country (since most were either participants or direct observers) from covering what life was like in their country during WWII. The idea of commodity-rationing is such a foreign concept to today’s time that it’s hard to imagine. The prosperity that came from the war and birthed the Baby Boomers, they would likely say was their just deserves.
