Some of Neil Stephenson’s best chapters in “Fall; or, Dodge in Hell” were when the characters visited Ameristan, the white nationalist gun-toting flyover country where people drive tactical pickup trucks and refuse to believe that a debunked story of a nuke wiping a town off the map is anything but government misinformation.

Crikey, isn’t there always supposed to be someone distracting us from something? Pursuing their favoured, well-worn agenda? Does a terrorist threat exist - from multiple political/religious/ideological sources? Quite obviously, yes.
Is everyone in a community guilty? Manifestly not - don’t be stupid.
Selective vision seems to be the only available flavour.

The front cover says “Who are america’s homegrown terrorists?”. It’s pretending they only come from one source because it has an obvious racist agenda.

Well, Islam is not a race, but that aside. The book is specifically evaluating the hazard of terrorism from radical Islamic fundamentalists. A very real risk which governments worldwide attempt to grapple with. Security agencies are constantly investigating such terrorist organisations, and thankfully, manage to prevent many attempted atrocities.
Anyway, the “obvious racist agenda” theory from the book cover is hardly supported by an examination of “the bias experienced by innocent observant Muslims at the hands of law enforcement” and “at the critics and defenders of US policies on terrorism.”
Other books quite properly deal with threats from the many diverse groups which exist. More than one evil is abroad in the world.
